AIDS

Public Health – HIV/AIDS

Background

AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), and is a syndrome that leaves the body vulnerable to a host of life-threatening illnesses. There is no cure for AIDS, but treatment with antiviral medication can suppress symptoms. AIDS is universally fatal, in large part due to the proliferation of opportunistic infections.

How can the CEI program help?

This program is directed towards assisting health care providers with current-day treatment of AIDS.  It can improve the quality of life for affected people and increase the productivity of the affected population.

Topics to be covered

Topics to be covered for people with HIV/AIDS

  • How to improve services to the group

  • How to improve public attitudes

  • Improving productivity and quality of life for those with HIV/AIDS

  • Survey employer programs and benefits

  • Encouraging people with HIV/AIDS to seek treatment and protection of others

  • Preventing and slowing the spread of the disease

  • Developing education programs about HIV/AIDS and its prevention.

Where will the CEI mission travel?

The mission will visit hospitals and clinics predominantly located in the US Midwest region.  It will tour U.S. health care facilities and other locations to learn economical processes and procedures.  It will meet with health care executives to discuss and learn successful strategies and tactics for assisting and caring for those affected with AIDS.

Expected program benefits

Health care providers will be able to see the latest practices used in the U.S. and will be able to discuss their application with leading health care providers.  This will enable them to improve services to those who are infected and at risk in their own communities.  Affected people will be better able to contribute to the country’s economy.  Work force stability will be increased.
